Purpose of Kiosk Mode

To prevent passers-by from changing what is displayed on the tablet screen you need to prevent screen touches and disable the exiting of the stoplight widget's web browser. Below you will find information on how to achieve this for both Google Android and Apple iPad tablets.

Google Android

Download Kiosk App

  • There is no built-in feature on Android for achieving Kiosk mode but a third-party app called Fully Kiosk Browser & App Lockdown can be used to achieve this

  • Install the app here and purchase a license

Get the Stoplight Widgets URL

  • Open the Infogrid platform in the Chrome web browser

  • Select the Stoplight widget you want to display on the Android tablet

  • Hover over the Settings icon and select Full Screen Mode

  • Copy this URL as you will need to enter it in the Kiosk App

Setup the Full Kiosk Browser App

  • Open the Fully Kiosk Browser App

    • Paste the URL of the Stoplight widget into the Start URL section

    • Enable: Fullscreen Mode

    • Disable: Show Action Bar and Show Address Bar

    • Press the blue button: Start Using Fully

  • Swipe left to open the menu and select Settings

    • Go to Web Browsing Settings:

      • Enable: Load Start URL on Home Button

      • Disable: Enable Back Button

    • Go to Web Zooming and Scaling

      • Disable: Enable Zoom

    • Go to Advanced Web Settings

      • Enable: Keep Screen On while in Fullscreen Mode

      • Disable: Enable Keyboard, Enable Touch Interaction, Enable Dragging, Enable Scrolling and Enable Javascript Interface.

    • Go to Toolbars and Appearance

      • Make sure only Show Progress Bar is enabled

    • Go to Device Management

      • Make sure only Keep Screen On, Unlock Screen and Launch on Boot are enabled

    • Go to Kiosk Mode

      • Enable: Kiosk Mode, Disable Notifications, Disable Incoming Calls, Disable Outgoing Calls, Disable Screenshots and Lock Safe Mode

        • Leave all other items in their default state.

      • Setup an Exit Pin:

        • Select Kiosk Exit Gesture: Change to Fast 5 Taps Anywhere

        • Select Kiosk Mode Pin: Enter a Pin Number

        • This step will let you exit Kiosk Mode

      • Setup App Whitelist:

        • Select App Whitelist: Choose Google Chrome

    • Go to Other Settings

      • Enable: Restart Fully After Crash, Restart Fully After Update

      • Disable: Enable Version Info, Show Menu Hint on Start, Render In Cutout Area

  • Enable Permissions

    • After you change the settings above you will be prompted to grant extra permissions to the Kiosk App, press Ok

    • Then press Allow / Enable on all of the following few screens, you are prompted with

  • Change Home App

    • When prompted change your Android Home app to Fully Kiosk Browser and set it to Always

  • Exiting Kiosk Mode

    • To exit Kiosk Mode you will have to tap the screen anywhere 5 times and then enter the passcode you created as mentioned in the step above

Apple iPad

Set the Screen to Not Turn Off

  • Go to Settings > Display & Brightness and then select Never

Rotate to Widescreen

  • Before you set to Guided Access Mode below please rotate your device to widescreen mode so the stoplight widgets load up in landscape view

Turn on Guided Access Mode

  • Use the built-in guided access mode features provided by Apple

    • Apple's official guide can be found here

  • Go to Settings > Accessibility, then turn on Guided Access

  • Enter a passcode (this will be used to exit guided access mode)

    • You can also use Face ID or Touch ID

  • Open the Infogrid platform in the Chrome web browser

  • Select the Stoplight widget you want to display on the iPad tablet

  • Hover over the settings cog icon and select Full Screen Mode

    • The browser will now load this widget in full screen

  • Start guided access mode, by either triple tapping the home or slide button depending on the model of iPad you have

  • Turn off all features including Touch, Sleep/Wake Button, Volume Buttons, Motion, Keyboards, Dictionary Lookup and Time Limit as you don't want users being able to exit the app and you don't want the device to sleep

  • Now the device will not respond to screen touches unless you exit Guided Access mode via the triple tap method and enter your passcode
